Pinole Valley soccer team huddle around each other after their Thursday win against Salesian.

On February 8th, 2023, the boys varsity soccer team at Pinole Valley High School played their highly anticipated TCAL final against the esteemed Salesian College Prep School out of Richmond. The Pinole Valley High students won 4-2 in this anticipated match up to take the Stone Division TCAL flag.

PVHS  sophomore Eric Preston had three goals, while senior Mohamed Naji scored the other to make it four in total for the Spartans. Juniors Johan Rico and Sebastian Ocegueda had 1 and 2 assists each, demonstrating the teamwork that they have worked all year long for.

PVHS defense was able to limit the Salesian Pride to just two points, with Junior Isaac Torres saving 3 out of 5 shots on goal, all while playing all 80 minutes of the game.

Johan Rico, 16, states that “The entire team has worked hard this year to get to where we are. Now, we need to focus on winning the NCS.”

Robert Rojas, 16, also wanted to share his thoughts. “Man, watching Eric fly the down the field was magical. I understand and have seen their hard work, their late practices and the amount of dedication it takes to get to where they are. This season has been a good kind of crazy.”

Right wing on varsity, Amir Hernandez said, “All of the work that we put in outside of school finally paid off. Now we NEED to win the finals. I am happy for my team and Coach Hassan.”

We here at Pinole Valley High are proud of the hard-work that the boys soccer team has put in this school year. Now onto San Rafael!

Mr. Chamberlain, Spartan Ink Advisor
Hey everyone! My name is Mr. Chamberlain. I am the current advisor for the Spartan Ink Newspaper for the school year 2023-24.   A little bit about me is that I am a recent grad school graduate in my second year of teaching. I became interested in journalism during my undergrad at the school Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. I majored in English and World Literature, but took journalism and creative writing classes for my minor.   During my time at Marymount, I worked for the school newspaper, submitting articles ranging from political conflicts, to book reviews, to op-eds about the school, current events, and important situations that they needed to know. While this is my first time being an advisor for a newspaper, I am excited to read what you all write, see the amazing images and art that you submit, and support you every step of the way.
