Poetry Out Loud 2020

John Rubino, Staff Writer

This past Tuesday, Pinole Valley High School held its annual Poetry Out Loud competition during 5th period! Unlike the old PVHS campus, which held their Poetry Out Loud competition in the gold room, this year’s Poetry Out Loud competition was held in the school theater, an addition to the new campus that the previous one lacked. The competition lasted from 1:00 PM to 2:06 PM.

Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation competition in which students memorize, interpret, and perform a poem of their choice and are scored on an official rubric. The first-place winner advances to the county-wide finals on February 8 in Danville.

The following teachers participated in this year’s Poetry Out Loud competition: Mr. Anderson, Mr. Bedwell, Ms. Brady, Ms. Elliott, and Ms. Schurr.

The winners go as follows: Victoria in third place, Jermaine in second place, and Lily Johnstone in first place. Lily also won last year’s competition and becomes the first student to win two years in a row.

Best of luck on conquering the county-wide finals on February 8th, Lily Johnstone!
