Athlete of the Week: Kailani Tatro

Jadeyn Wilson, Staff Writer

Pinole Valley’s very own Kailani Tatro was named Athlete of the Week. Kai is the starting pitcher for our varsity softball team, and she is starting the season off right!

She is looking good out there on the field, when she pitched a perfect game on Monday against Vallejo and hit her first-ever home run at the game last week! Kailani has pitched for five games total this season with only playing five innings each game, and has only allowed five hits total, has 57 strikeouts and allowed one walk. She pitched three shutouts, went 7-10 at the plate with one double, one triple, and one home run. She has 10 RBIs and has been walked four times!

Kai has been playing softball since a very young age. She started when she was about five, so she has been playing for a total of about eight years. She said, “My dad wanted me to try out different sports, so I played multiple but softball was the one I fell in love with”. Kai says that her dad influences her most when it comes to softball because he is the one person she wants to make proud.

Kailani says that her being the Athlete of the Week makes her feel like she has been playing good in the games so far. She is doing amazing and it’s just the beginning of the season. We wish their team well for the rest of the season and we know they are going to do great!
