How has this quarantine affected an athlete?

Natalie Ochoa, Staff Writer

Today I interviewed a couple of students to see how this quarantine has affected them.

The first person I interviewed was Faith Dumlao, a freshman. She is on the varsity girls’ basketball team at Pinole Valley. I first asked her “How do you stay in shape?” Her response was that she goes for runs at least twice a week. Faith also said that she “tries to stay active as much as possible”. The next question I asked her was, “How has this quarantine affected you in your athlete journey?” Faith said that “it has affected me to want to play more and get better and it also makes me want to practice with my teammates a lot more”. The last question I had was, “What are some pros and cons of this quarantine?” Some of her pros are working on things that she didn’t really have time for before and that she gets to spend more time exploring nature. Some of her cons are that she feels a bit lazier and that she also doesn’t get to play basketball as much as she wants to.

The next person I interviewed was Kasandra Garcia, a sophomore. She is on the junior varsity girls soccer team at Pinole Valley. I first asked her, “How do you stay in shape?” Her response was that she watches workout videos on YouTube. She also goes outside in her backyard to play soccer at least every other day. The second question I asked her was, “How has this quarantine affected you in your athlete journey?” Kasandra said, “It has affected me because my season outside of school got canceled and I was really looking forward to that season.” The last question I asked was, “What are some pros and cons of this quarantine?” Some of her cons were that we don’t get to go out as much and that we can’t go to school. Her pros are that we get to stay home and get our work done and that we can relax more.

The last person I interviewed was Anthony Schell, a freshman. He was on the freshman boys’ basketball team. I had first asked him, “How do you stay in shape?” Anthony responded with “I run two miles three times a week and I have a workout plan on a paper.” The next question I asked was, “How has this quarantine affected you in your athlete journey?” He said, “it doesn’t stop me from being active,” but he also said that “I can’t play basketball with other people but I can still play at my grandpa’s house.” The next question I asked him was, “What are some pros and cons of this quarantine?” Some of his pros are that he can cook more, help more around at home, and spend more time with his family. Some of his cons are that he can’t see his friends or some of his family members, or go out to eat anymore.
