Boo at The Zoo

The Children’s Play area all ready for human animals on Halloween

This passing weekend the annual event Boo at the Zoo took place at the Oakland Zoo. This is one of the most popular events that the zoo holds, and you can tell, because the entire parking lot was closed by 11 A.M.! Visitors then had to park several streets down. The zoo’s entrance welcomed visitors with a table full of volunteers who handed out a scavenger hunt map that took place throughout the entire zoo. The prize for finding all the items was a bag filled with healthy candies. Once you made your way to the children’s area in the zoo the main field was decorated with many different colors and  music.

Throughout the zoo many people were dressed up and the animal’s enclosures contained many Halloween decorations including cut outs, Halloween baskets for enrichment, and the consumption of the traditional Halloween food- pumpkins!

The Oakland Zoo also had its new gondola working as it went to the newly created restaurant that overlooked the entire city. The gondola was recently built in the zoo midsummer of this year and will soon be extended into a California trail with many of the endemic California species by the summer of 2018.

The next time you’re looking for something to do around Halloween go to Boo at the Zoo, IT is most definitely recommended! Their next upcoming holiday event is Zoo Lights where they perform a light show at night in the zoo from December 1-23 and 26-31 so show up for a night of fun!
