Ever wanted to be a cheerleader? Well, now it’s your chance! We are having tryouts on September 30th – October 3rd, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. If interested email [email protected] for an application, but no later than September 29th. Everyone is welcome!

I tried out for cheer just for fun and actually made the team! My first year cheering was pretty fun. I started off as a basketball cheerleader and it was a big change in my life. Cheer helped me become more confident and be more involved with the school. I look forward to every Friday night for the football games so I could go cheer. My favorite part is performing at halftime and bringing what we got to the field.

Being a cheerleader is a big responsibility. There are many rules and expectations. When you are a cheerleader you are representing Pinole Valley. That means you have to be on your best behavior and you can not be involved with any type of drama. You are expected to do your best and give your all every day. There’s a rule we have: if you say the word “can’t” you have to do 10 burpees. You need to be confident in yourself and have a positive mindset.

We do a lot of work in cheer. In the summer we condition a lot so we can be fit and ready for football season. We also stretch a lot so our jumps and tumbling will be on point. We also work on our motions so they look clean and sharp when doing cheers or dancing. Our voices are something we work on as well, we practice on barking which helps us be louder. Facials are a big part too, so you have to have an attitude and confidence especially when dancing. As long as you keep pushing yourself you will be fine. Never give up and have a positive mindset.

The bond I have with the girls is amazing. We are a big family. I am able to be myself with them and honestly act like a total weirdo. We are all hyped with each other and we have this strong bond. We help uplift each other. They push me to do better and I am so grateful to have teammates like them!

Tryouts are soon! When trying out, come with confidence! Push yourself and show that you care. You will definitely make the team! Good luck to those who are trying out!
